FAQs

Who is the programme available to?

The programme is open to all local residents who do not have access to a bike.

Priority in the first round of the programme at Colliers Wood was given to key workers, in recognition of their invaluable service during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Applications are considered purely on a needs-based criteria, so anyone who doesn’t currently cycle is welcome to apply.

If I am selected for this round, when will I be able to collect my bike?

We have a number of open days planned across the summer, so leave your details and we’ll get in touch near the time. There will also be a number of bikes available from Brompton docks already on the site, which we can keep you posted on.

Will my Brompton be new?

Your Brompton will be from our Wheels for Heroes fleet – a fully serviced and maintained ML3 model.

How do I return my bike?

After 90 days from pick-up, you return your Brompton to the hub. We will be in touch to remind you, or you can contact the support team.

What happens if I have a puncture or faulty gears before the service is due?

We understand faults happen – contact customer support on bdsupport@bromptonbikehire.co.uk.

I’m new to cycling. Will I be given any safety equipment?

Upon collecting a bike, you will be provided with a tutorial, a free helmet, high visibility jacket and information pack with full details of the programme.

Where do I collect my Brompton from?

We will have cycle hubs across a number of our sites in London, once you have registered interest and selected the area you are in, we will let you know the exact details of collection. If you have any difficulties getting to the site to collect your bike, please do get in touch with us.

How should I lock my Brompton?

You should never need to lock your Brompton - that’s why it folds up! Always take your Brompton with you when you’ve finished cycling and never leave it locked or chained, to avoid theft.

What do I do if my Brompton is damaged beyond repair?

If you’ve returned your bike due to damage and we can’t repair it, we will issue you a new bike after a successful claim on our insurance. An excess payment will be required.

Are there size options?

The Brompton adjusts just like a regular bike and has an extended seat post so can fit riders from 4ft7 up to 6ft6. The model is a Brompton ML3.

What do I need to bring to pick up the bike?

You will need proof of ID, such as a utility bill, passport or driver’s licence.

What should I do if my Brompton is stolen?

As you would do with any bike, contact the police for a criminal reference number and then contact our customer support as soon as you can.
